What is Brazilian jiu-jitsu
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a martial art that primarily focuses on controlling an opponent on the ground, especially through positioning, grips, chokes, and joint locks.
In BJJ, technique matters a lot. Good positioning, proper timing, and an understanding of how the body moves can be more important than size and strength. That is why a smaller, more experienced practitioner can often control someone who is both bigger and stronger.
A large part of training consists of sparring. Both people try to make their techniques work while the other is actively trying to stop them. That makes BJJ problem-solving under pressure: part wrestling, part chess, and part involuntary yoga.

BJJ with the gi
The backbone of the sport. You train in a gi, and the fabric becomes part of the game: you can grip sleeves, collar and trousers to steer the other person.
With the gi, the pace slows down and precision becomes more important. You have more time to think, and more grips to work with. The added friction and variety of grips often make positions more stable, giving you more time to focus on the details. That makes gi training a great way to develop control, timing, and technique.
Is this for me?
Gi BJJ is a great fit if you enjoy technique, details, and a slightly more traditional style of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. You do not need to be strong, fit, or have any previous martial arts experience to get started. Through training, you will gradually improve, learn to use your body more efficiently, and challenge both your mind and your body. Whether you want to train for fitness, self-defence, or competition, there is a place for you on the mats.
- Monday and Wednesday at 19:00, adults from age 14
- A new theme regularly, for example defending from mount or attacking from the back
- You will need a gi, but wait to buy one until you have tried

No-Gi
No-Gi is the same sport, just without the gi. You train in shorts and a rashguard, and because there is no fabric to grip, control has to come from body positioning, pressure, and timing. The pace is often faster, the movement more fluid, and the matches a little more unpredictable.
For many people, no-gi is an easy way to get started with BJJ. You need very little equipment, and at first, the training clothes you already own are often enough.
Is this for me?
Yes, if you enjoy a faster pace, more movement, and a slightly more direct style of jiu-jitsu. The Basic classes on Tuesdays and Fridays are a great fit if you are completely new. No-gi is suitable both for those looking for a fun and effective way to train and for anyone curious about grappling, MMA, or competition.
- Tuesday and Friday at 18:00, Basic
- Thursday at 18:00, all levels
- Shorts with no zips or pockets, and a close-fitting top.
